Sophia Nguyen is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and a board member of Unbroken Horizons, where she oversees the organization’s financial operations and provides strategic guidance. Reporting to the COO for approvals, Sophia ensures all financial decisions align with the nonprofit’s mission of empowering survivors. Additionally, Sophia plays a key role in volunteer coordination and contributes her extensive technical expertise to enhance the organization’s IT infrastructure. Leveraging her professional network, she is spearheading efforts to expand Unbroken Horizons’ reach into Washington, D.C., amplifying its impact.

Professional Excellence in Technology and Leadership

Sophia brings a wealth of experience to her role at Unbroken Horizons. Currently a Senior Consultant in Deloitte's Strategy and Analytics service offering, she specializes in using data science and analytical best practices to help federal clients gain valuable insights. In this capacity, she has honed skills in Python, Tableau, SharePoint, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and advanced data modeling techniques.

Previously, Sophia served as a Systems Engineer at the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), where she developed 3D models and simulations for robust analyses of ships and submarines. Her prior roles include contributions as an Undergraduate Research and Teaching Assistant at Virginia Tech, focusing on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and as an Engineering Intern at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, where she developed innovative thermal control systems and conducted advanced modeling research.

Sophia holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). Her rigorous academic background, combined with her professional experience, has equipped her with the analytical and leadership skills necessary to drive financial and operational success at Unbroken Horizons. She also holds an active Secret Security Clearance, underscoring her commitment to secure and ethical practices.
